NATURAL ATTRACTIONS
Sit quietly
by a large pool in the river and you may see one of the resident
platypus surfacing for air or even scurrying along the bank,
particularly around dawn and dusk. Look for rings on the water
caused by their
expelled breath bubbling to the surface.
Wallabies and kangaroos can be seen munching on the grassy slopes
in the evening and early mornings.
There are plenty of resident bird varieties to spot throughout
the property - as well as many transient varieties at different
times of the year. Be as adventurous as you like or sit back
in your chair and you might be surprised at how many birds
you see.
Keep an eye open for water dragons resting by the rivers edge,
echidnas bustling over the grounds, and the occasional goanna
wandering around.
Take a spotlight walk at night and look out for possums, bandicoots
and owls to name a few.
ACTIVITIES
Curl up in a hammock and read a book in the shade of our many
trees. Sit round the warm glow of a roaring real wood camp
fire at night and enjoy conversation under the stars. Drift
the river on a lilo mattress and watch the clouds glide by.
Cook a baked dinner in your camp oven or sizzle snags on a
grill over the wood fire.
SWIMMING
Take the plunge into the clear water of our giant swimming hole or have fun
riding the rapids.
CANOEING
Bring Your Own - There’s plenty of river to explore in your canoe. For the
more adventurous you can either access the river upstream and paddle down to
the campground. Or alternatively, from the camping area, there is a fairly
gentle paddle of a km or so downstream, after which you will strike some rapids.
Experienced canoeists can run downstream to the Manning Junction and arrive
at the TIRI bridge. This is about a 3-4 hour trip and at the bridge you can
retrieve the canoes for a 10 minute drive back to the camping ground.
FISHING
The river is excellent for Bass fishing as well as good stocks of Herring,
Mullet, Catfish and eels. We encourage sustainable fishing practices.
Either try your luck at casting lures or using baits - either
way there is a good chance of coming home with a tale to brag
about.
SCENIC DRIVES
Take the Tourist Drive 8 on the Manning
Valley Map (available to buy online at www.maps.com.au).This
drive takes in Ellenborough Falls - one of the longest single-drop waterfalls
in the Southern Hemisphere. A timbered walkway to the bottom of the falls provides
a comfortable walk. Blue Knob lookout is a 1014 metre peak with a spectacular
360 degree view of the Manning Valley area, coast and beyond. Dingo Tops Rest
area and Tapin Tops National Park are ideal places to go exploring. Another
great country drive is up to Nowendoc through picturesque wide open countryside.
This is approximately a
120km round trip. In winter time, you may even see snow!
4 WHEEL DRIVING AND MOTORBIKE TRAIL RIDING
